Times past
Eric Purchase learnt the art of photography from
a German man named Hans Roeback, who lived opposite him when he was
a young man. His business career started in the early 60s when he
started working on a part-time basis as a photographer for Edward
Dyer in Wells High Street. When Mr Dyers' business was taken over by
a gentleman named Norman Heal, Eric was approached to become a
full-time photographer. Eric started his own studio in 1970, at that
time he took pictures on a regular basis for The Mid Somerset Series
newspapers. He was also the appointed school photographer at
Millfield School, Millfield Prep School and Wells Cathedral School
to name but a few. His business developed over the next 30 years and
he became an acclaimed wedding and portrait photographer.
Eric rarely advertised, instead relying on delivering a top
quality service at all times so that customers spread the word,
indeed it was not uncommon for Eric to have photographed many
generations in a family from Grandparents getting married to new
born baby portraits (and even on a regular basis the family pet).
This tradition continues to this day.
Eric Purchase was a patient instructor for anyone wishing to learn
the profession. He has trained many photographers over the years,
one of his most prolific students was a young sixteen year old
called Debbi Watts (now Debbi Humphreys) who started working with
Eric when she left school in 1986 and now continues to keep the name
of Eric Purchase alive since his untimely passing in late 2002.
Our ongoing commitment to delivering a top quality efficient and
flexible photographic service to our customers has meant Eric
Purchase Photography having to take the leap into the digital era,
however we continue to believe that traditional photographic methods
are still an essential part of being a Professional Photographer,
consequently we make every effort to offer our clients the best of
both worlds by continuing to make use of both film and digital
technology. Recently we have invested heavily in new equipment that
will allow us to offer a service, that we believe will be better
than our competitors, and will exceed the high quality that we have
offered to our clients in the past.
As long standing professional photographers, Eric Purchase
Photography of Wells find that their daily routine changes with the
seasons. Normally most of the location shoots are taken between
Easter and October, outside that time we are usually found in the
studio. Nowadays our efficient quality checking procedures ensure
that there is no chance of any work being lost in the post or
processing house. As well as our Wedding, Commercial and Portrait
photography, we still continue to offer services to all the Schools
in the local area that Eric started working with all those years ago |
